SEED have won the Social Enterprise of the Year – Small award! I accepted the award last week in Melbourne at an event organised by Social Traders at PwC Southbank.
We employ previously long-term unemployed people in Brisbane to deliver commercial landscape maintenance, residential gardening and commercial cleaning services.
As Enterprise Director I am so proud to have led an amazing team to this point, it’s testament to the hard and work and dedication of many people over the last few years at SEED; not only our staff but also the incredible support team that have got behind our mission to create social inclusion for disadvantaged people through employment. Special mentions must go to Susan Black of SVA, Drew Boyland at PwC, purchasers of our services such as Brisbane City Council, and of course to the Westpac Foundation for their valued access to capital. SEED has created over 20,000 hours of employment and paid $500,000 in award wages to disadvantaged staff over the last four years, and this award will help propel us towards greater heights – creating social impact using business principles.
