Social Enterprise kicking goals

I lead SEED a business for a social purpose; creating employment for long term unemployed people. We do this by providing services in commercial landscape maintenance, residential gardening, and commercial cleaning.

When I took on the role as the first biz manager in 2010 we were at the very beginning of start up phase, and turned over about $50,000. We have grown that business to turn over $500,000 last financial year, and in total we have turned-over $1,250,000.

We have created employment for 43 local people, 74% of whom have been long term unemployed and disadvantaged in the traditional labour market for example by having a disability, mental illness, or coming from a refugee background. We have paid wages of $800,000 into the pockets of local people, and paid $120,000 in materials to local businesses.

There have been many ups and downs, and we aren’t sustainable just yet, but when I look at this chalkOgram I know we are succeeding.
